ANALYST PROGRAMMER Vacancy at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Geneva, Switz

Under the supervision of the Chief of the SDP Section and the Senior Analyst Programmer, the incumbent will be responsible for development and maintenance of stand-alone and Internet applications and databases to support the processing, dissemination and analysis of international trade policy information.

The work of the SDP Section includes:

(a) Development and support of the technical infrastructure for the WTO's Integrated Data Base (IDB), Consolidated Tariff Schedules (CTS) Database and other trade policy databases, in collaboration with the Informatics Division and the International Computing Centre.

(b) Development, maintenance and support of a number of applications used to facilitate the processing, dissemination and analysis of the IDB and CTS information.

(c) Development and maintenance of several websites used for the dissemination and analysis of IDB and CTS information.

(d) Provision of technical advice and support to WTO Members, WTO Committees and to other Divisions in the Secretariat.

 

REQUIRED

(a) A university degree in computer science or related discipline.

Theoretical knowledge and/or proven professional expertise equivalent to an advanced university degree level.

(b) A minimum of five years experience in analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of large-scale information systems.

(c) Excellent knowledge of object-oriented programming, component development technology, multi-tier distributed client-server development and relational database management systems.

(d) Knowledge of MS Windows operating environment and Internet technology. Extensive expertise in MS Visual InterDev, ASP, HTML, DHTML, VBScript and JavaScript in the MS Internet Explorer environment. Experience in Transact SQL and MS SQL Server 2000 development and administration. Knowledge of the MS Office system, especially programming in MS Access.

(e) Experience in component-based development using both ActiveX and .NET technology. Knowledge of Windows and Web programming using Visual Studio 6 and Visual Studio 2005 tools, in particular good experience with Visual Basic and C#.

(f) Experience in the subject-matter of custom tariffs and international trade statistics would be an advantage.
