TELECOM COORDINATOR  Vacancy at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs UN Secretariat (UN); (07-IST-OCHA-412591-R-GENEVA); Switz

Under the supervision of the Chief, Information and Communications Technology Section, Geneva, the Telecommunications Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties: 1. Ensure the provision of telecommunication facilities to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) 2. Coordinate inter-agency telecommunications activities in the humanitarian domain. 3. Liaise with relevant ITU bodies and study groups, and national authorities 4. Ensure the provision of inter-agency telecommunications services 5. Provide advisory services to OCHA and the humanitarian community at large 6. Represent OCHA at international meetings and conventions dealing with telecommunications issues, and Cooperate with the private sector

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Advanced University Degree (Master's Degree or equivalent), preferably in telecommunications engineering. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the telecommunications area, including at least 3 years experience at the international level. Extensive advisory and coordination experience in telecommunications or related area required. Technical experience, including in developing and implementing large telecommunications systems/infrastructures, required. Experience in both public and private sector organizations preferred.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of French is highly desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
