IT News Announcement: Cisco certification exams on Pearson Vue-Only

22-10-2007- Cisco systems has announced that all its certification tests will now be exclusively conducted by major testing provider, Pearson Vue. Microsoft had earlier announced that certification testing would in future be limited to Prometric testing centers.

The change took effect from August 1, 2007 at all Pearson Vue testing centers worldwide.

According to the Cisco website, “Pearson VUE has been delivering Cisco exams since 2000, but shifting to a primary vendor strategy worldwide will enable Cisco to advance test security through the deployment of advanced biometric technologies, facilitate the rapid localization of exams around the world, and allow for increased certification scalability and coverage”.
 

Cisco’s strategy is based on the belief that sticking with one provider will be better for meeting future needs with respect to technology changes and developments are bound to occur. Areas of interest include increased language support, security enhancements including biometrics, and new testing techniques and technologies.

Using one testing provider may also make it possible for Cisco to update its exams more regularly. But how does this development benefit other stakeholders? Cisco, the internetworking giant has spoken. Who stands to gain? Who loses? Test takers, training institutions and other interested members of the certification community are yet to take a position on these moves by the certification giants.

It is hoped that in choosing only one testing provider availability of testing centers will not become a major issue.
