Fellows’ Investiture and National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA
2009) Several individuals and organizations were honoured on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the umbrella body for all computer associations in the country. It was a celebration of honour and recognition at the event organized by NCS to recognize those who had contributed positively to the growth of information technology in Nigeria.
The Fellows’ Investiture organized with the National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA 2009) is the first of its kind. Professor Charles Uwadia FNCS, President of NCS, noted in his welcome address that it is to be an annual event
Through this event NCS is being proactive in sanitizing the award ceremony landscape in the area of Information Technology. The Nigeria Computer Society is the umbrella body for all computer associations in the country. According to the NCS president NCS is therefore the best positioned to present awards in the field of IT in Nigeria. It is intended to be a distinct platform to recognize and honour excellence in the field of IT.
Fellow is highest grade of the NCS professional cadre. Fellows must have contributed to the advancement or application of Information Technology for significant value to society. The NCS president in his speech told awardees in his speech noted that the Fellowship “confers on you a new and higher level of responsibility to the society. Keep the flag of IT flying. Do not rest on your oars.” Professor Charles O. Uwadia charged the new members of COF during the prestigious Investiture Ceremony to conduct all their Professional Computer practice and activities in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Professional Practice of NCS as well as to the level of professionalism expected of them as members of the COF. While receiving their Fellowship plaques, the new members of COF pledged to meet and discharge their professional, financial and moral obligations as well dedicate themselves to all lawful and due causes of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).

Professor Raymond Akwule (President, Digital Bridge Institute) was the Guest lecturer. He spoke on Broadband Technology in Nigeria.
Fellowship awardees were: Adeola Olukemi ILECHUKWU, Adeyemi Adebola SALAMI, Chadrill .A. OGBEBOR, Prof.Cleopas ANGAYE, David Esonwa INYERE, Jide AWE, Kenneth Ngozichukwuka NWANZE, Okopedehe Asian UMOBONG, Raphael Ayodele OMOSOLA and Dr. Sylvanus Okwudili ANIGBOGU. Through their investiture they are now members of the NCS College of Fellows (COF).
A citation was read for each new Fellow describing their accomplishments. Each elevated member also received a Professional Fellowship Plaque from Prof. Charles O. Uwadia FNCS President of NCS.
One of the awardees, Professor Cleopas Angaye Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), responded on behalf of the awardees, thanking NCS and pledging that the new Fellows would live up to expectations.
After the Fellowship investiture, winners were announced for the National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA 2009) . Awards were presented to winners by the former Minister of Petroleum and a renowned pioneer of the IT sector in Nigeria, Chief Don Etiebet Winners were: Computer (Hardware) Manufacturer of the year: Omatek Computer. Software company of the year: Systemspecs Nigeria limited IT driven bank of the year GT Bank E-Payment Service Provide of the year: Chams Plc. IT Reporting Media of the year (Electronics): Africa Independent Television IT Reporting Media of the year (Prints): The Guardian Best IT driven airline of the year: Dana Airline IT Driven Telecommunications Company of the year: CDMA: ZOOM Mobile IT Excellence Award for the year: Zinox Technologies Ltd
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. David O. Adewumi FNCS 1St Vice President, NCS/Chairman, Award Planning Committee.
NCS states that, “The goals from inception of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) as enshrined in its constitution shall be the advancement of Computer Science and Information Technology & Systems, their applications and deployments to Professional Practice in education, government, the military, the industry and support for work which is important to the general community and the professions at large”.
