The Nigerian Society of Engineers
is inviting technical papers from Engineers, the Public and Private
sectors of the Economy, Higher Institutions, Research Institutes as well
as Economists, Policy Formulators and Defence Personnel for its Year
2009 Conference
"HEARTLAND 2009",
holding at Disney Hotel & Resort, Owerri from 7th 11th December, 2009.

OBJECTIVES
The paramount objective of this Conference is to examine the relevance
and the needed contribution of the Engineering Profession to the
Challenges of Economic Recession due to the Global Economic Meltdown.
Due to Global Economic Meltdown, there is dwindling revenue at the
disposal of the Government and fiscal crisis facing the Nation. Many
Engineering projects including infrastructure will be affected. There is
urgent need for intervention of Engineering professionals and the
Society Experts, Academia, Policy formulators, Economists from across
Nigeria and beyond will be brought together to interact and share ideas
and experiences on how to solve these imminent challenges posed by the
Global recession.

The following sub-themes shall be addresses among others:

Engineering for Harnessing Mineral Resources for sustainable
Industrialization
Sustainability of Economic growth and sustenance of Nigerian Content

Solution to Global Energy Crisis-Economic Policy and legal issues

Development and Application of Indigenous Technology, Codes, and
Standards
Global Partnership for maintenance of Engineering Infrastructure
Information and Communication Technology
Strengthening of Public & Private Schemes
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT
Manuscripts should be typed on A4 sized paper leaving a 2.5cm margin on
the left and 1.5cm margin on the remaining sides. Leave additional
space of 6.0cm from the top of the first page
The paper must include:
Title (10 words maximum length)
Author's name, affiliation and present include e-mail and phone number
Abstract (maximum of 300 words)
A clearly written introduction and text to explain the nature of the
problem, previous work, purpose and contribution of the paper.
A conclusion section must be included and should indicate clearly the
advantages, limitations and possible applications
References should be given at the end of the paper.
The text should be written in WinWord 6. or 7 with letter font Times New
Roman 12pt. and submitted also electronically in "doc format". Scanned
documents shall be in Win Word 6 0r 7
A statement in your covering letter should confirm that if the paper is
accepted one of the authors would attend the Conference to present it.
SUBMISSION OF PAPERS
Authors are expected to forward the following items:-
Two (2) No. hard copies of the paper which should not be more than 12
pages including equations, tables, figures and references and electronic
copy in disk drive or Flash drive in Microsoft Word 2003
It should be noted that all submitted papers will be pre-viewed for
approval or otherwise, a flash drive or disk drive copy in "Power Point"
presentation will be needed for accepted papers only.
CLOSING DATE
The Closing date for submission of full text shall be 31st July, 2009
while notification of acceptance of the manuscript will be effected by
30th September, 2009
