Network Professionals Sought as Beta Testers for the CompTIA Network+ Certification Upgrade The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has announced that it is seeking experienced network administrators and network support technicians to be beta testers for the 2005 upgrade of the CompTIA Network+ certification. The beta exam is available now and the beta exam testing period to be completed by December 31, 2004. However, the closing date may change based on participation levels. Those who pass the beta will become Network+ certified. "Taking the time to sit for a beta exam is increasingly becoming a way to give something important back to the profession," said Kris Madura, CompTIA Network+ program manager. "Beta exam takers validate the clarity and accuracy of exam questions and have the opportunity of jotting down detailed insights, all of which provide vital feedback during the final stage of certification development. Passing the beta exam and earning the CompTIA Network+ certification is icing on the cake." To encourage experienced professionals to take the beta, CompTIA, in partnership with Pearson VUE and Thomson Prometric, is making available exam vouchers free to the first 1,000 qualified volunteers who complete a pre-exam survey. Information on the survey and enrolling for the beta exam can be found at the CompTIA Network+ beta homepage (http://www.comptia.org/certification/network/beta2004.aspx). The beta exam is open to everyone interested in network administration and support, including those who already hold the CompTIA Network+ certification. CompTIA also has several promotions designed to generate interest in the beta. Several prizes to be given to all beta takers via a random drawing, including Microsoft Press books and a one-year subscription to MSN Direct. CompTIA states, "Get CompTIA Network+ certified and prove you have the skills to properly implement and support the latest networking topologies, protocols and standards. The CompTIA Network+ exam certifies that the successful candidate knows the layers of the OSI model, can describe the features and functions of network components and has the skills to install, configure, and troubleshoot basic networking hardware peripherals and protocols". The dynamic nature of the Networking world is obvious for all to see. In the huge multi-vendor world of network systems, products and manufacturers, Network+ gives the individual a solid vendor-neutral foundation to successfully grow in any of these areas of networking. It is certainly the most popular certification designed to validate knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of networking. A live date for the new Network+ has not been released. But the new release will not affect those already certified, as CompTIA certifications do not need to be renewed. CompTIA urges candidates to carefully review the certification
objectives prior to taking the exam and to use the objectives as an
effective content study guide. Linux+ objectives and exam related
information, including links to Pearson VUE and Thomson Prometric are
posted on the CompTIA website.
