Rationale For The Assembly
Information Technology (IT) has become the bedrock for national survival
and development in a rapidly changing global environment. Therefore, it
behoves on us to devise bold and courageous initiatives to address a
host of vital socio-economic issues such as reliable infrastructure,
skilled human resources, transparency in governance and other essential
issues of capacity building. An Information Technology policy that is
built on reliable human resources and infrastructure constitutes the
fundamental tool and means of assessing, planning and managing growth
with the ultimate goal of attaining sustainable development.
The desire to respond to global challenges in Information Technology in
order to be properly integrated into the Information Technology age and
bridge the digital divide informed the choice of this year's theme.
Therefore, the theme of this year's Assembly will address
comprehensively some of the challenges we are facing in our desire to
integrate our people fully into the information age.
