Breweries Plc NB Golden Pen Award for print journalists
Nigerian Breweries Plc has announced the NB Golden Pen Award for print
journalists in Nigeria. The competition is designed to reward excellence
in journalism practice..
Entries will be selected based on the number and quality of published
reports on events affecting the business and corporate world starting
from September 1st - December 31st, 2008
Winners from Nigerian Newspaper and Magazines will win the following
prizes:
1st Prize - N500,000, a laptop & printer
2nd Prize - N250,000, a laptop & printer
3rd Prize - N150,000, a laptop & printer
Plus 5 digital cameras as consolation prizes.
According to information posted on the
Nigerian Breweries website, Mr. Yusuf Ageni, Corporate
Affairs Adviser (CAA), Nigerian Breweries, the award was long overdue.
Ageni added that the all-important role of the media as the major source
of mass information to the larger society and the subsequent molding of
public opinion all over the world cannot be over-emphasized.
“One of the ways Nigerian Breweries Plc intends to demonstrate its
commitment to the cordial relationship with the distinguished gentlemen
of the press and the cause of good journalism in Nigeria is by
instituting a yearly competition and award to recognize and reward
outstanding performance among journalists across the country,” he said.
The Corporate Affairs Adviser said the award shall be called and
referred to as “Nigerian Breweries Plc Golden Pen Award”, while the
overall winner of the maiden edition shall be referred to as the
“Nigerian Breweries Plc Golden Pen Reporter of the Year 2008”.
“The competition is open to all practicing journalists in the country
from the print media,” he explained. “Participating journalists would be
motivated to write objectively about our Corporate/CSR as well as our
Marketing/Brands activities during the promotional period. The articles
would be judged on the following criteria: use of space; clarity of
message; style of presentation of the articles; depth and insight.”
According to him, an independent media-monitoring agency has been
contracted to track all the media mentions of Nigerian Breweries within
the period of the competition. This is to ensure fairness, objectivity
and accuracy. The agency, he added, will at the end of the deadline,
collate the best stories based on the criteria highlighted above and
forward them to the jury who will vet and pick the outstanding entries.
The jury will be composed of distinguished Nigerians drawn from both the
academia and the journalism profession.
