Empowerment announcement for MTN Nigeria Foundation Science & Technology Scholarship scheme

10-11-11 - The MTN Nigeria Foundation will provide financial support to an additional 500 eligible Science & Technology students in accredited education public universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the six geo-political zones in Nigeria which will cover tuition, book allowance and stipend (pocket allowance). The scholarship award is N200,000.00 (Two hundred Thousand Naira only per student for one  academic year and will be paid at the beginning of the 2011/2012 academic session.

The existing 934 students currently receiving financial support from the foundation also have a chance of renewing their scholarships if they have maintained a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or its equivalent.

The scholarships will be awarded to 200 level/2nd year full time students in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. Successful applicants will receive their awards during the 2011/2012 academic year.

The scholarships may be renewable provided recipients maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or its equivalent (second class upper/upper credit.

 



PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The MTN Foundation seeks to attract high calibre full time students into the science and technology sector. The scholarship is intended to provide assistance to those students who might otherwise be unable to fulfill their educational financial obligations and to reward and recognize superior academic performance.

GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE
Scholarship will be made available to qualified and successful candidates from every state of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

DISCIPLINES
Applications in the following list of approved disciplines will be considered:

1. Accountancy / 2. Agricultural Science / 3. Architecture / 4. Communication Technology / 5. Computer and Electronics / 6. Computer and Information Science / 7. Computer and Mathematics / 8. Computer Engineering / 9. Computer Science / 10. Electrical Engineering / 11. Electronics and Computer Technology / 12. Electronic Engineering / 13. Engineering Physics / 14. Industrial Mathematics / 15. Industrial Physics / 16. Information Technology / 17. Mathematics / 18. Mechanical Engineering / 19. Physics Electronics / 20. Physics Engineering / 21. Physics/Computational Modeling / 22. Pure / Applied Physics / 23. Statistics and Computer Science

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be full time undergraduates in 200 level / 2nd year in public universities and colleges of education. Applicants from polytechnics must have obtained amission for the HND or Direct Entry Program to qualify for consideration.

Applicants from universities and colleges of education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.5 or its equivalent (2.1), while applicants from polytechnics must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (upper credit)
and admission for the HND program.

 

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Closing date for receipt of applications is November 27, 2011.


Shortlisted candidates will be invited to come for an assessment test and will be required to come with the original and photocopy of the following documents:

  • 2 passport photographs

  • Valid student identity card

  • Any other means of Identification (National ID, International passport or Drivers License)

  • Admission letter from JAMB and Institution

  • Admission letter for HND program (Applies to polytechnic students only)

 

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Interested eligible students are required to visit the MTN Foundation Scholarship website at: (scholarship website) and register online before the due date of November 27, 2011.


Incomplete applications will be disregarded and cancelled

Upon receipt of applications from interested students, MTNF shall evaluate and shortlist qualifying students who will be subsequently invited for an assessment exercise.

Names of successful candidates will be published in National dailies and on the MTN website

Busaries will be allocated to successful students at a later date. Students are however advised to visit the MTN  website for more information.

APPLICATIONS WHO ARE ALREADY BENEFICIARIES OF SIMILAR SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED, ONLY SHORT-LISTED APPLICANTS WILL BE CONTACTED AND MTNF SHALL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR FINAL SELECTION OF SUCCESSFUL AWARDEES
