The Association of Professional Woman Engineers of Nigeria APWEN: Call for Papers for APWEN National Engineering Conference


The Association of Professional Woman Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), a Division of The Nigerian Society of Engineers is Calling for Papers for the 3rd APWEN NATIONAL ENGINEERING CONFERENCE. The Theme: THE ATTAINMENT OF MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (MDGS) THROUGH THE PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN ENGINEERS.

Embedding Professionalism in Service Deliver
Strategies and Technologies for improving Maternal health and reducing Child mortality
Enabling Technologies for Wealth Creation
Role of Energy and Communication in attaining the MDGs
Role of Engineering in Environmental Sustainability
Public Private Partnerships in use of Emerging Technologies for Development
Lessons from the Oil and Gas, Banking and relevant industries.

OBJECTIVE:

  • To examine and evaluate where Nigeria stands in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and then identify strategies that will aid the country attain the set Goals through participation of Women Engineers

  • Engineering is indispensable in the development of any nation and more importantly, the touch of women engineers have a crucial role in transforming Nigeria to where she needs to be by 2015

  • An Opportunity for Engineers, Academia, Policy formulators, Experts and relevant stakeholders to interact, brainstorm and share learning's on how best the Country can attain the MDGs.

DATE: Thursday 2nd - Saturday 4th October, 2008
Time: 9:00am - 7:00pm Daily.

Venue: Metropolitan Hotel & Conference, Murtala Mahammed High Way, PMP 1071 Calabar, Cross Rivers State.


INSTRUCTION FOR THE PREPARATION OF PAPERS

1 Language: English
2. Length: 4 to 6 pages regular paper
3. Manuscript: Manuscript should be typed in 12 points, Times New Roman Font or equivalent, on 8.5 X11 inches or A4 paper, leaving as inch margin on each side and at the top of all but the first page. Spacing for the top of the first page should be 1.5 inches. Spacing at the bottom for pager should be 1.25 inches for A4 paper. The title and author information is to be centered across the first page and then a two column format is to be followed for the balance of the paper.
4. Manuscript should be 1.5 line spaced with 2.0 line spacing between paragraph indentations. Allow an extra half space above a line containing subscripts.
5. The paper should include:

a. Title (10 words maximum length)
b. Authors name, affiliation and present address
c. Abstract (maximum of 300 words
d. A maximum of six keywords
e. A clearly written introduction to explain the nature of the problem, previous work, purpose and contribution of paper.
f. A conclusion section must include and should indicate clearly the advantages, limitations and possible applications
6. Diagrams photographs must be of high quality. Diagrams and lettering must be either computer designed or made using red ink (drafted). Photographs of diagrams are acceptable, but photocopies are not
7. Photographs must be on glossy papers and should preferably be pasted in one column
8. Reference should be quoted in text with a number in square brackets, for example: Paper: Author, title, journal, volume number, issue number and year, inclusive pages.
